Step & Wellness

What's more important quality or quantity? When it comes to health and wellness quality is the answer. We should all strive to be as healthy as possible so we can have lives that are free from the debilitating effects of poor health. African Americans are more at risk and have a higher incident of heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, kidney disease and prostrate cancer than any other ethnic group. Many of these chronic diseases can be minimized or eliminated with good healthy lifestyles.

That said, The Steppers Club (TSC) has launched a wellness initiative called Step & Wellness. Our purpose is to provide information on healthy lifestyles, disease prevention and health awareness. Our first initiative will be a Step & Wellness Health Awareness Fair at our 10th Annual Labor Day Weekend Black & White Ball. TSC will provide basic health screenings for Diabetes, Hypertension and Obesity. There will also be brief, informative discussions on Prostate and Breast Cancer.

We want Steppers (and future Steppers) to know that they have already taking their first step to better health. Steppin (and line dancin) is a wonderful and enjoyable form of exercise. It helps to increase stamina, decrease stress, improve muscle tone and coordination. The Heart, Lung and Blood Institute says, "dancing can also help to decrease your blood pressure, lower your risk for heart disease, promote and manage weight loss and strengthen bones. It is also a great social networking activity that helps keep our minds healthy."
